I think you guys might have missed the point of the H.264 acceleration in 10.6.3.
ReplyDeleteSure, it lets Flash push decoding off to the hardware. But that isn't Apple's point in doing it. Apple's point in doing it is to improve battery life on their laptops. So the GPUs it is supported for make perfect sense.
Even if Apple planned to ship other chipsets forever on their desktop computers, they'd be a much lower priority than the laptops.
In other words, I wouldn't count on the GPUs supported by 10.6.3 to be an indication of Apple's future plans. It might be, but it's not certain.
