  9. I know it's much later now, but I think the main thing Steve Jobs learned while away from Apple is how great it is to be indispensable by being fully dispensable.

    Back when he was dispensable, he was tossed out for personality conflicts because he'd made himself "indispensable" and made sure everyone knew it.

    But if you're dispensable, nobody's ever going to get rid of you because you're invaluable. But if you have to do something else (another project, medical leave, or resignation) things don't collapse.
