Macworld 2010

Just a reminder for everyone: we will be recording (not streaming) the next episode live on the Macworld Main Stage on Friday at 5:00. For the terminally oblivious, this means that this week's episode will be delayed. We hope to have it up quickly after Friday, but let's face it: we're going to be hella drunk.

For those who are coming to the show. John and Peter are already on the ground, and I'll be flying in Wednesday night. See ya' there!

Episode 46 is up!

Still more iPad stupidity, and a special, special gift for everyone who listens to the whole show.

(and yes, Peter's volume levels were all over the place, that kind of freaked out WTS's remove silence stuff so he's clipped sometimes. it'll be fixed for the next episode.)

Audio Complaint Number 15,702

Re: this.

You know, I am truly fucking sorry that this free fucking podcast can't live up to your lofty expectations. It's not like I haven't spent hundreds of dollars of my own (understand this you fucking assholes, this is not sponsor money I'm talking about) money on ever-increasingly better equipment. I'm so fucking sorry that I'm forced to deliver this free entertainment to you ungrateful fuck-heads out of my non-audio-optimized office.

Seriously, I thought I was doing you assholes a favor by trading my in my admittedly overly compressed headset mic (MSRP $80.00, again out of my own pocket) for one of the most expensive podcast mics on the market.

Apparently, though, I was mistaken. I mean, what sort of asshole was I to not eliminate even the slightest echo. I'm going to run out right now and buy the 1000 square feet of acoustic foam that will ensure that none of you ever have to endure the hideous inconvenience of a small bit of echo.

Please accept my abject apologies . I'm such a douchebag for trying to entertain you ungrateful fucktards without delivering the full Dolby Digital experience.

Mea culpa...mea culpa.

No Show This Week

Hey there boys and girls. Due to a confluence of spousal birthdays, holiday overindulgence and general ennui we've decided to cancel this week's broadcast. Fear not, for we shall return next week, even crankier and with an extra big list of assholes to rant at.

Toodles.

Listener Survey

So we decided, a while ago, to do a listener survey. Partially for our own curiosity, but also for any current/future sponsors, who would want to have an idea of what our audience is like. with that in mind, we asked four questions:
  1. How often do you listen?
  2. What do you do for a living?
  3. What industry are you in?
  4. Why do you listen?
We kept the questions open-ended, even though that created more work for us, because we wanted to get an idea of what your answers are, rather than which category you felt you belonged in. The exception was the "How often do you listen?" question, that one just lends itself to "pick from a list". So, here's the results.

For "How often do you listen?:

No big shock here, we figured most of you listen fairly often. It's nice to know that so many of you listen every week though.

What do you do for a living?

The fact that the two biggest categories are Sysadmin/network engineer and programmer/developer/software engineer? No surprise at all. The larger surprises were the small, but significant blips for various "medical" professions and random manager positions. Evidently, people who make decisions and work in the medical field have a mean streak. Then again, given the medical people I've known, that's really no surprise at all.

Next, what industry are you in:

Most of you are "in the industry" as it were. Again, big shock. The .edu spike is a tough one, since it kind of covers a lot of areas, but then again, so does military. Considering the tendency of military humor to run and dive towards "evil", the only surprise is that there aren't more military people listening.

Finally, why do you listen:

Most of you listen because you have cruel senses of humor and like schadenfreude.

What. A. Shock.

That was pretty much a given. The full text of the comments showed that along with a lot of "they don't dance about with their opinions", which tells us that waaaay too many podcasts are trying harder to be nice than to be honest, people notice that, and they don't seem to like it much.

We can also say that you fuckers who said "they understand me" seriously scare us, and we hope your neighbors are well-armed.

So, basically, our audience is a bunch of IT/programmer types, who are somewhat mean, and listen regularly. Makes us a good fit for say, programming/IT vendors, less so for someone selling Barbie accessories.

Episode 41 is up, finally

yes, it's late, but it's good. And it was xmas week, give us a break!
